B. CD Labels

B..1 CD Label Printing at CFHT

Here's what I did to create the CD label for Sidious. This can be used to edit and print other CD labels from Unix also.

1. /data/sidious/Documentation/Manual/sidious_cd_label.fig - contains labels for Sidious (but you can copy the file and delete everything except the circle to get a template for other labels.) It's editable with ``xfig'' on any Linux machine.

   When you've created one label, if you want to copy it to the lower half of the template and save it to PostScript:

   • Select ``Glue Compound Object'' (upper left button under ``Editing Modes'') and make the whole label into one object. Click middle mouse button once at each corner of the region (our well outside.) Then click right button to create the ``Glued'' object.
   • Select ``FLIP Objects'' (7 rows below ``Glue'' - the icon with the two triangles.) Then middle click anywhere on the lower edge of the Glued object. You now have 2 labels on one page.

   • Next, export the figure to PostScript at 100%, left justified: (File -> Export : Language [PostScript], Justify [Left]. Then click Export.)
2. Pull out tek7's normal 8.5x11 tray and lay a label sheet (or multiple ones, if you need) face up. If you're only printing the top half, keep the end you want printed closer to you.
3. When you put the tray back in, it will ask for paper type. I tell it ``770 transparency'', hoping that will cause it to shoot the most ink (?) Seems to work fine.
4. Print normally to tek7, from any Linux host:

   
   rlpr -Ptek7@hoku /data/sidious/Documentation/Manual/sidious_cd_label.ps
   

5. Remember to change paper type back to normal when picking up your job!
